The coin is named after South African statesman Paul Kruger who served as president of the South African Republic for nearly twenty years.

Paul Kruger died in July 1904 at the age of 78.

There was a controversy about him that won much sympathy among many of the African people for his stubbornness towards the British Empire that ruled at the time during the Boer Wars, and on the other hand, criticized him for degenerating Africa into a hard and bloody war.

The surface of the coin is a portrait of Paul Kruger.

On the back of the coin is engraved antelope or what looks like a deer facing right as a symbol of nationality with the value of the coin.

The coin comes in a plastic capsule to protect the coin, multiples of 25 will come in a plastic tube.
